Conveying Systems


Conveying Systems, Pallet Conveyors in the UK

PHS has a wide range of both pack and pallet handling conveying systems, for example:

  • Zero pressure pack accumulating 24v dc roller conveyors, ideal for non contact of product when accumulating, hence no pack damage, perfect for delicate products with zoning
  • Under belt driven roller ZP systems
  • Line shaft transit conveyors for transporting over a long distance with low cost and simple installation

BELT CONVEYOR

Our belt conveyors come in a standard range of widths in 50mm increments from a nominal 200mm to 1200mm although the actual widths can generally be manufactured to specific requirements.

There are options for end drives and centre drives with both geared motors and drive drums with lengths of over 40 meters pulled with one drive.

We have modules for elevators/lowerators that give a separate chain driven feeder sections to achieve a horizontal portion to interface with roller conveyors. There is also a roller based top curve that gives a horizontal section at the top of the conveyor.

We have a range of single and multi stage brake/metering belts to martial product for accumulation, machine feeds and bends etc.

Side frames are manufactured from 2.5mm folded steel (either mild or stainless).

There is a range of heavy duty warehouse belts conveyors to handle pallet sized loads. These conveyors have 3mm thick re-enforced side frames and bed plates to handle the extra weight. They can also be supplied with horizontal feeder sections and roller top curves.

Support stands are manufactured from box section and incorporate angular adjustment where necessary and there is an adjustable foot for leveling.

Belts can be supplied with flights, corrugated side walls etc to suit specific applications.

PALLET DISPENSERS

We have a large range of dispensers for pallets, dollies and base sheets/cards.

The pallet and dolly dispensers come in two main variations which are detailed below.

The fork types are used where the type or orientation of the pallet/dolly dictates that the only entry position is in pallet/dolly face that is perpendicular to the direction of travel.

The finger type is used where the entry position for the operation is parallel to the direction of travel. The finger type is usually the preferred option due to its cost effective construction and simplicity.

The fork type is actuated by a combination of pneumatics and motors with heavy duty roller slides.

The finger type is actuated via pneumatics only and has a range of fully adjustable stops to suit each application as well as the heavy duty roller guides of the fork type.

The base sheet dispenser is used to apply base sheets/cards prior to an automated palletising process. They comes with either an integrated or stand alone magazine to store the sheets/cards. The vertical movement is controlled via pneumatic rodless cylinder carrying the vacuum arm and the horizontal movement is affected via a motorised carriage.

Standard motors are SEW Eurodrive where applicable but other motor manufactures can be used on request.

Frames are manufactured from box section and thick plate with heavy duty adjustable feet for levelling where applicable.

DOLLY / MU and  RTP HANDLING SYSTEMS

Our range of dolly and RTP handling conveyors and machinery comes in all shapes and sizes.

Within the dolly handling range we have lifts, conveyors, trolley cars, stackers and de- stackers.

The RTP handling range of equipment includes conveyors, right angle transfers, trolley cars, lifts, incline conveyors, nesters and de-nesters.

The Dolly Equipment enables individual dollies, dolly stacks or loaded dollies to be introduced into an automated environment for loading/unloading, wrapping or stacking/de-stacking.

The RTP handling equipment covers all aspects of conveying and manipulating RTP trays and tote bins. We build equipment to introduce RTP’s or tote bins into an automated environment, interfacing with washers and also end of line equipment such as robot palletisers for finished product stacking.

The two ranges of equipment can be combined to give a fully automated system for handling RTP’s loaded onto or off of Dollies.

Standard motors are SEW Eurodrive but other motor manufactures can be used on request.

Support stands and frames are manufactured from box section and thick plate with heavy duty adjustable feet for levelling where appropriate.

All equipment comes in a choice of mild and stainless steel.

 

MAT TOP CONVEYOR

Our mattop conveyors are built to order and come in a standard range of widths in 50mm increments from a nominal 100mm to 1000mm although widths of up to 2500mm are achievable.

There are options for end drives and centre drives dependent on the layout. Drive is provided by either geared motors or special drive drums with integrated sprockets.

We have modules for elevators/lowerators that give a horizontal portion at the top and bottom of the conveyor for a better interface with other conveyors as well as rubber inserts for extra grip.

Construction can be of either mild or stainless steel and frames are 2.5mm thick. All the chains have full FDA approval so these conveyors are ideal for handling raw or unwrapped product.

Conveyors can be supplied with integrated bends which allow for smooth transportation during the change in direction.

The mat top chain itself can be of various pitches to suit each application, from ½” pitch for small product and very small transfers to 2” pitch for heavier applications.

As these conveyors have a chain width equal to the frame width so they are ideal for handling small loose items that would sit in the dead area of a belt conveyor.

Support stands are manufactured from box section and incorporate angular adjustment where necessary and there are adjustable feet for levelling.

Matt op belts can also be supplied with flights, corrugated side walls, rubber inserts and either a perforated or solid top plate to suit specific applications.

Construction can be of either mild or stainless steel and frames are 2.5mm thick. All the chains have full FDA approval so these conveyors are ideal for handling raw or unwrapped product.

Conveyors can be supplied with integrated bends which allow for smooth transportation during the change in direction.

PALLET CHAIN CONVEYOR

Our pallet chain conveyor is primarily used to convey wooden pallets and large containers.

There are two basic types of conveyor which are twin and triple strand.

Both types use 1” pitch base roller chain and 12t steel sprockets with precision roller bearings on the idlers.

Side frames are manufactured from 3mm thick structural box section (either mild or stainless).

Standard width of the conveyors are 100mm less than the object to be conveyed but other widths are available to suit the application.

Lengths of up to 7.5 meters are available on one drive.

Standard motors are SEW Eurodrive but other motor manufactures can be used on request.

Support stands are manufactured from box section and thick plate with heavy duty adjustable feet for levelling.

Other options include 5/8” pitch duplex chain for a smaller diameter at the transfer points and a budget version with a folded 5mm thick side frame and ¾” pitch transport chain.

Ancillary items such as sprung sensor rollers, chain captivation at loading/unloading positions, infill decking, fork truck barriers and back/end stops are also available to suit specific applications.

PALLET LIFTS and STACKERS

Our range of pallet lifts and stackers can offer various functions and be built in a variety of different formats. There are two basic types of machine.

Firstly there are pallet stackers that will take a pallet or box in to the machine then raise it into a position allowing a second unit to enter and be positioned underneath before lowering the first pallet or box onto the second.

Secondly there are simple lifts that can be fitted with either heavy duty roller, chain or belt conveyor to move pallets or large loads between different elevations or floors.

All the units are manufactured from heavy duty structural box section and thick gauge plate and are counterbalanced to help the efficiency of the drive arrangement.

The lifts arrangement is via a chain drive of different configurations dependant on the application.

Positioning is usually via an encoder or a series of adjustable roller limit switches.

The carriage is kept square by either a four chain and slider block arrangement on heavy applications or a cantilevered carriage with combined bearing guides on lighter applications.

Options include the fitment of a right angle transfer unit or turntable unit so the load can be transferred out of the machine at 90 degrees to the input orientation.

Lifts and stackers can be manufactured from either mild or stainless steel.

PACK ROLLER CONVEYOR

Our pallet roller conveyor is primarily used to convey wooden pallets and large containers.

There are two basic types which are roller to roller drive and tangential drive.

Both types use 76mm diameter x 3mm thick wall tube with either a single or double 15t 5/8” pitch steel sprocket (dependant on type) and precision roller bearings.

Side frames are manufactured from 3mm folded steel in either mild or stainless steel.

Standard roller pitch is 158.75mm on roller to roller and 150mm on tangential drive but other pitches are available if required.

Standard widths of the conveyors are 80mm over the object to be conveyed but again other widths are available to suit the application.

Multiple modules can be linked together on a single drive and accumulation can be achieved by generating and moving slugs of product around a system.

Bend modules are also available to compliment the standard range of conveyors.

Standard motors are SEW Eurodrive but other motor manufactures can be used on request.

Support stands are manufactured from box section and thick plate with heavy duty adjustable feet for leveling.

Other options include sprung sensor rollers, low side frames for off loading, Fork truck barriers, back/end stops and blade stops.

PALLET CHAIN TRANSFERS

Our right angle chain transfer conveyors come in all sizes to suit specific applications.

There are three basic types which are pivoting air bellow lifts, vertical air bellow lift and cam lifts.

All types can be supplied with any of the pallet roller and chain options described in the relevant data sheets.

Standard motors are SEW Eurodrive but other motor manufactures can be used on request.

Support stands and base frames are manufactured from box section and thick plate with a heavy duty adjustable feet for levelling.

Vertical air bellow lifts have a fixed chain conveyor which can be up to 7.5 meters long and the roller conveyor is lifted on four air bellows. These units are cost effective due to the long chain conveyor which has a single drive and are used on slower lines where the product is transferred in on the roller conveyor.

Pivoting air bellow lifts are the most common and have a fixed roller conveyor. The chain conveyor is pivoted on end that is outside the roller conveyor and lifted on the end within the roller conveyor.

Cam lifts are used where space is at a premium and can be self contained within a section of roller conveyor.

Fixed stops, blade stops and sensor rollers are available for positioning the product on the transfer.

 

TURNTABLES

Our turntables can be supplied in various configurations to suit the specific application.

There are two basic types which are friction drive and gear drive with a slewing ring.

All types can be supplied with any of the pallet roller and chain options described in the relevant data sheets.

Standard motors are SEW Eurodrive but other motor manufactures can be used on request.

Support stands and base frames are manufactured from box section and thick plate with a heavy duty adjustable foot for levelling.

Friction driven units have a centre pivot shaft contained in housed bearings and a series of polyurethane coated heavy duty castors which provide the load bearing and rotational support. Drive is provided via a nitrile rubber coated driving wheel. Both the driving wheel and support castors contact a heavy gauge grip faced support ring. This unit is very simple and cost effective for light to medium duty application.

The slewing ring units have a combined heavy duty thrust race with gear teeth machined into the upper race. A pinion is mounted onto the motor shaft and actuates the rotation directly onto bearing which has the conveyor also mounted to the upper race. These units are recommended for heavy duty application due to their exceptionally robust construction.

Fixed stops, blade stops and sensor rollers are available for positioning the product on the turntable.

LANE DIVIDERS

We design and build a range of channelisers to order that would suit most application and products. Pathfinders are used when dividing or combining the flow of product on an automated production line.

We have a wide range of constructions to suit most requirements from large product machines at slow speeds to high speed machines for smaller product.

On one hand speeds of up to 300 packs per minute are achievable in certain circumstances while on the slower speed machines widths of up to 3 meters can be accommodated.

We have a variety of infeed systems that range from a simple brake/acceleration belt to sophisticated marshalling systems for multiple lanes.

Construction can be of either mild or stainless steel dependant on the application.

The machines can be supplied without guarding for integration into other machines or fully guarded and interlocked in a stand alone format.

Frames are manufactured from box section and incorporate polycarbonate, interlocked guard panels while the base machine is constructed from 3mm to 5mm thick side frames.

There is an optional turner that can be integrated before the dividing mechanism to create the high speed turner/divider that is required for some machine infeeds.

POWERED ROLLER CONVEYOR

Our powered roller conveyor is primarily used to convey and accumulate containers and boxes.

There are two basic types which are roller to roller and tangential drive.

Both types use 50mm diameter x 1.5mm wall tube with either a single or double 14t 1/2” pitch steel sprocket (dependant on type) and precision roller bearings.

Side frames are manufactured from 2.5mm folded steel in either mild or stainless steel.

Standard roller pitch is 76.2mm on roller to roller and 75mm on tangential drive but other pitches are available if required.

Standard widths of the conveyors are in 50mm increments from nominally 200mm to 1000mm but again other widths are available to suit the application.

Multiple modules can be linked together on a single drive and accumulation can be achieved by using clutched rollers with either a blade stop or brake belt conveyor.

Bend modules are also available to compliment the standard range of modules.

Standard motors are SEW Eurodrive but other motor manufactures can be used on request.

Support stands are manufactured from box section with articulated adjustable feet for levelling.

Other options include sprung sensor rollers, low side frames for off loading, end stops and blade stops.

SLAT CONVEYOR

Our slat conveyors are built to order and come in a standard range of widths that correspond to the standard slat widths available. Widths range from 1” to 12” and single, multi lanes and twin or triple strands are also available.

Drives are via a motor gearbox located at the end of the conveyor. SEW Eurodrive motor gearboxes are fitted as standard but other manufacturers units can be fitted on request.

Construction can be of either mild or stainless steel and side frames are 2.5mm thick. Support stands are manufactured from box section and incorporate articulating adjustable feet for levelling.

Conveyors can be supplied with integrated bends which allow for smooth transportation during the change in direction. End transfer plates are also fitted where necessary with small diameter rollers to create a smooth transfer between conveyors.

Straight sections are fitted with adjustable side guide as using standard components and the size and spacing of the rails is engineered to suit each application. Bend section are usually supplied with fixed side guide to match the straight sections

Slat modules can be supplied using chain with a tab, bevel, base roller chain, knuckle chain or the magnaflex system.

Unit can also have transfers, pushers and lifts built into them if required. Special photocell brackets that clip onto and adjust with the guide rail are available on request.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT

We design and build all types of special handling equipment to order. These projects are undertaken through close co-operation between ourselves, our customer and the end user to determine the exact requirements, operation and throughputs before design starts.

We produce a preliminary design scheme for discussion and eventually approval. When the equipment is built we then test all modules before shipment. (Levels of testing depend upon how much of the control system can be integrated within our factory).

We also have several experienced engineers that are available to help with the setup and commissioning of our equipment on site if required.

Within the design process we will look at specific issues related to each project and decided whether we can adapt something in our extensive range of standards and previous specials or if a completely new design is required. We have over 15 years experience in ‘blank sheet’ design within this industry.

As with all of our equipment the construction can be of either mild or stainless steel dependant on the application.

Machinery can be supplied without guarding for integration into other machines or fully guarded and interlocked in a stand alone format.

It is a fact that most of our work is special to one degree or another as very few schemes are built from standard module alone.

We actually prefer our work this way ! ! !

TROLLEY CARS

Our trolley cars come in various guises and formats to suit specific applications.

Generally they are either a single or double position trolley car with an option of a two tier system if required.

All types can be supplied with any of the pallet roller and chain options described in the relevant data sheets or with other type of conveyor to suit individual requirements.

Standard motors are SEW Euro drive but other motor manufactures can be used on request.

Base frames are manufactured from structural box section and thick plate while the trolley car wheels are heavy duty castors mounted onto solid steel shafts and have a capacity of over 2.5 tonnes on a single car with four wheels and over 4 tonnes on a double car with six wheels.

The rails are also manufactured form structural box section and are supplied with a range of packers to facilitate leveling.

Guidance is via adjustable precision bearings that act as pinch rollers. These rollers run on the inside of the rail to ensure the trolley car runs true.

Positioning is usually via a laser system or a series of sensors which allow the trolley car to slow down then stop accurately.
